Explorer I Reference 114270
A consolidation and polish of the 14270 rather than a radical redesign. The 114270 moved to 904L "Oystersteel" (the superior alloy with better corrosion resistance and mirror polish characteristics) and gained the hidden-clasp Oyster bracelet. SuperLuminova throughout. The case profile was refined, the applied markers brightened, and the overall impression is one of quiet confidence. Still 36mm — the last time Rolex kept the Explorer at this diameter for a decade.
Notable: First Explorer in 904L Oystersteel. Final 36mm reference before the 39mm era.
